The last meeting of the Cirencester Chamber of Commerce’s year was the AGM and Summer Social held at Stratton House Hotel on 10th July. At the AGM Annemarie Thurgood was voted in for her first official year as President. This may surprise some members who have been used to seeing her in this role for a while now, but throughout the last year, since our former President Les Stephens stepped down shortly after being re-elected, Annemarie has actually been caretaking the position – and a very good job she’s been doing!
The rest of the committee remain the same, David Fowles and Adam Vines are joint Vice Presidents, and Howard Smith is Treasurer. Jan Sparrow, Hilary Norris-Evans, Howard Burr, Russell Jones-Walker, Mark Harris, Fran Coulter and Hannah Hockley are the other committee members, with Claire Wardell continuing as Secretary. Jennifer Winnett reluctantly had to withdraw due to other commitments.
The business of the evening was preceded by a presentation by Owner Aidan Stevens about the improvements current and planned for Stratton House Hotel, including a £1million state of the art luxury spa overlooking the garden. The new facility will include five treatment rooms, beauty suites, a steam room, sauna, juice bar and an outdoor jacuzzi, opening in early 2020.
We moved to the lovely garden afterwards for the Summer Social, to enjoy the beautiful evening sunshine.
We now have a break for the summer as there are no more Evening Networking or Breakfast meetings till Wednesday evening 11th September. However, the committee met the following week in the Growth Hub, where manager Yesim Nicholson and her team had been celebrating the Growth Hub’s first birthday. We were treated to burgers, buns and vegetable kebabs from their barbecue as went through our agenda. It is reported that a certain committee member who is a keep fit fanatic went a little overboard on the burgers and may well have suffered the effects of this overdose later!
Enjoy the beautiful weather while it lasts and spare a thought for Annemarie, Claire and the VPs who will be working hard throughout the summer to organise the Chamber programme for next season.
