Arts Award Discover in a Day

Children’s Workshop with James Harris

Mon 12 August, 10.15am-1.30pm

Working through your very own log book, you will begin by exploring the museum to find out about ancient artists. You will attend a 1 hour workshop to do one of three activities available; create a Stone Age picture, make a medieval tile or design a mosaic using foam shapes. The end session will be sharing your work on our online gallery. Your Discover Arts Award certificate, accredited by Trinity College London will be sent onto you. Bring your own packed lunch. Bring a packed lunch.

Cost: £16.25 per child, £14.25 members (includes log book and certificate)

Mini Mosaics

Children’s Workshop with Rebecca Shellenberger

Tues 13 August, 10.30-12pm

Visit this museum and you won’t be disappointed!

Join us for a morning of mosaic making. We will explore the museum looking for inspiration from the museum’s Roman mosaic collections. During this morning workshop you will create a mosaic tile to take home using colourful, safe glass tiles. All materials and instruction provided.

Cost: £8.25 per child, £7.25 members

Let’s Draw: A Mammoth Adventure!

Children’s Workshop with James Harris

Thurs 15 August, 10.30-12pm

A baby mammoth is on the run being chased by a sabre tooth tiger! Help James to tell this story by creating your own beautiful works of art with James’s easy step-by-step guides. A story board will then be created with your art for display on the museum website.

Interpreting Corinium’s Mosaics

Afternoon Talk with Emma Stuart

Tues 20 August, 2.30-3.30pm

Over 90 mosaics have been discovered in the rich Roman town of Corinium. Join Emma to explore the interpretation of Corinium Museum’s incredible mosaic collection. She will discuss the design and mythology represented on the Roman mosaics on display. The talk will end with a rare look at some of the paintings and sketches of mosaics from the Museum archive.

Cost: £7.25 per adult, £6.25 members

Mythical Beasts

Storytelling and Craft Workshop with Volly Evalds

Wed 21 August, 10.30-11.30am

Dragons, Gryphons and Three-Headed Dogs: A storytelling session featuring magical beasts. Brave children can volunteer for theatrical participation. All are welcome to make a clothes-peg dragon, help tell a story with it, and take it home.

Cost: £5.75 per child, £5.25 members

Votes for Women

Town Walk with Sue Jones

Wed 28 August, 10.30-11.30am

Join Sue Jones and see where Mrs. Pankhurst was photographed on her visit to the town. Sue will lead people on a journey of women’s suffrage and explore the stories of the battles faced by local women who were fighting for the vote. Walk lasts no more than an hour. Please wear comfortable shoes and bring a rain coat! Meet at the museum.

Cost: £7.25 per adult, £6.25 members
