A Christmas Carol at the Barn Theatre, 28th Nov-11 Jan 2020

This show is based on one of the most famous stories ever written – Dickens’ classic tale of the miser Scrooge and his Christmas epiphany.

First published in 1843, the captivating tale of Ebenezer Scrooge’s thawing heart simply refuses to lose its relevance to and adoration from all generations. Alan Pollock’s newly written version interspersed with the beautiful original musical arrangements by Finn Anderson has created an incredibly atmospheric and magically adaptation of this timeless classic.

Scrooge hates Christmas.

And everyone hates Scrooge.

Miser, money-lender, one-man scourge of Victorian London, Scrooge casts a shadow over everything he touches.

Seven years after the death of his partner Jacob Marley, Scrooge is visited by the ghost of his one-time associate – and only friend…

Marley tells him he will be visited by three unearthly spirits on three successive nights and begs him – implores him – to heed their advice. Or suffer his own fate of eternal damnation…

As day turns frostily to night Scrooge waits for the first of the spirits to arrive…

But who is Ebenezer Scrooge? And why does he hate Christmas so?

In what turns out to be a dizzying, kaleidoscopic night of self-discovery, he – and we – begin to discover some of the answers…

Patrick Ryecart, The Crown, The King’s Speech stars in the role of Ebenezer Scrooge
