Saturday 22nd May: Plant Sale in aid of Phoenix Gardeners. In the Market Place from 9am – 12 noon. Donations of plants for the sale are also welcome. Contact details below.
The opening of lockdown has brought the spring flowers and the Phoenix Gardeners are now back at work, socially distanced and outdoors, so totally Covid compliant. The group managed to plant up the tubs last year and keep them looking good until the autumn when they just managed to get the bulbs planted before they were locked down again. That planting is paying off now, as is the work in the Abbey Grounds
Meg Blumsom, coordinator said, “This year we hope to carry on the restoration of the south border in the Abbey Grounds; last year we managed to clear the brambles and elder and with money raised by our plant sale on 22nd May we hope to provide perennials to give year round colour.”
Whilst last year the group had to cancel the Open Garden event they had planned, this year they decided to avoid planning one for the end of June, in case restrictions are not lifted. Instead, gardens on Coxwell Street, and The Mead will open on 12th September.

Both events will raise money to buy plants, bulbs and tools for the project.
