Creating connections with technology
Our aim at Phoenix Charitable Trust is to offer funding for services not generally available within the NHS. We work closely with health professionals based at different local surgeries to identify the people who need our help most.
Last year due to Covid lockdown and restrictions we had been limited in our ability to identify and help as many patients as we would have liked with holistic healing services.
In the meantime, research and media told us that mental health issues were on the rise due to lack of social connections as a result of isolation. Having discussed a project with the health professionals from the local surgeries, the charity undertook an initiative to help the locals tackle the problem of isolation.
We agreed to fund technology for the identified patients who would most benefit from being connected via Video Calls to a friend, family, group and NHS services with the help of a tablet device.
Just before Christmas 2020, tablet devices were delivered to the first selected group of patients and we were very pleased to have helped those who could benefit not only by enabling video and audio communication but also to use the device for reading books, listening to music etc. We also partnered with a different charity AbilityNet to provide the post delivery phone based technical support in using the tablet should that be needed.
We hope to continue with this project for the current year. In the last month we have helped Paternoster school students acquire remote learning school aids.
Along with this project, we continue to fund services like Osteopathy, Acupuncture and other NHS recommended complementary therapies and aids.
The technology project above and the holistic healing services need to be recommended to us by your GP.
