Cirencester Housing for Young People was established in 1986 to help young people in and around the Cirencester area. Chyp provides supported accommodation to vulnerable young people between the ages of 16 and 25.
The reason young people find themselves homeless is varied but often family break-up, mental health issues, abuse or leaving care. When a young person arrives at CHYP their Supported Housing Officer works with them 1:1 to identify their support needs; this could be life skills, literacy, numeracy, budgeting or managing their own health. Many of the young people also have previously unidentified learning difficulties or mental health issues, which we help them address. When ready we enable the young people to locate appropriate education, work experience or training, working towards our goal of independent living, sustainable tenancies in mainstream society.
