Cirencester Amphitheatre 10am to 4pm
We cancelled the original date out of respect to the Queen, as it fell the day before her funeral.
To celebrate their 50th anniversary the Ermine Street Guard are making a welcome return to Cirencester amphitheatre on Sunday 2nd October from10.00am to 4.00pm.
Displays will take place at 11.30am and 2.30pm and will feature aspects of a Roman soldier’s training, a demonstration of combat formations and artillery displays.
Since its formation in 1972 the Ermine Street Guard has become a leading authority on all aspects of the Roman Army. Based on research, they make most of their own kit and equipment to be as authentic as possible.
If you have children learning about ‘the Romans’ at school bring them along and explore the living history camp to find out how Roman soldiers would have lived, the tools they used and the food they ate.
The event is being coordinated by English Heritage with support from AQIVA (Friends of Cirencester Amphitheatre, Querns Wood and IV Acre Field) and is grant aided by Cirencester Town and Cotswold District Councils.
There is no parking at the amphitheatre, so we are asking people to walk to the site if possible. On Sundays, car parks in the centre of town (apart from The Brewery) are free. Free parking is also available at Cotswold District Council offices, Trinity Road, Cirencester GL7 1PX.
THIS IS A FREE EVENT! Bring a picnic and come along to spend a day with the Romans in Cirencester’s wonderful amphitheatre.
