Ciren Makes Music for Ukraine
The small team are so grateful to everyone’s wonderful help in giving us the chance to raise so much money for the Ukrainian Crisis. Since the invasion of Ukraine on February 24th this year, the generosity of local people in Cirencester and the surrounding villages has been second to none. The eventual sum raised will top £9,000. All these monies have been sent to the DEC Ukrainian Crisis charity.
The Concert and Auction last Saturday (8th October) was a great success and we sold over 220 tickets largely down to the amazing contributors who gave of their time for free.
It was hard work, but it paid off: the guys put out 220 chairs in the Cirencester Baptist church earlier and much to our amazement, we had to put out more!
The Cirencester Male Voice choir had learnt the Ukrainian National Anthem and were joined by other Ukrainians, and we all stood up to sing it with the English words on the overhead presentation: all very moving.
They were followed by the very talented local Guitar Ensemble conducted by Sandra Dukes.
The Rotary Club then kindly provided refreshments after which the auction started with Cadie, auctioneer from the Cotswolds Auction Company giving her time and expertise for free to a very exciting auction.
This was followed by the marvellous Mary Lou Revue who were incredible, and the evening ended with an amazing buzz.
Everything was given free from the Baptist Church, Rob Grace, our MC, the techy guys, all three performer groups, the auctioneer and the lots making it a wonderful evening. We would also like to thank all those who helped with the publicity in any way, and all the local supporters who came to the concert.
We have finished up with a total so close to £9.000, including the Ukrainian ribbons for those whose lives have been torn apart.
Let us hope that this conflict ends soon, and we can return to happier times.
