Welcome to the Quiet Garden! Cirencester Quaker Meeting House

53 Thomas Street, GL7 2BA

“Beauty surrounds us, but usually we need to be walking in a garden to know it.”

Open every Thursday and each 3rd Saturday from May to September

11.30am – 3.30pm

A hidden gem in the centre of Cirencester, the Quaker Meeting House Garden is, for the first time, being opened as part of the Quiet Garden Movement.

The Quiet Garden Movement was developed in the early 1990s by Philip Roderick, retired Anglican priest, percussionist, educator, and writer. He wrote “We live in a world where we are swamped by methods of communication … Silence is the missing and vital ingredient. Even as little as five minutes can be restorative …”

The Quiet Garden Movement nurtures access to outdoor space for people to experience silence and restfulness in a variety of settings, such as private homes, churches, retreat centres, schools, and hospitals – and creates opportunities for private reflection. There are over 300 Quiet Gardens worldwide.

All are welcome to come to the Cirencester Quiet Garden – to either pop in briefly or stay longer. The first opening of this year will be Thursday 4th May 11.30-3.30pm

There is flat access to the garden through the Friends Meeting House.  Light refreshments and toilet facilities will be available. No booking is necessary, and there is no charge, but donations would be welcome to cover costs of refreshments. There is no parking on site, but town car parks are nearby.
