CCOC May 23 Update: Two New Initiatives Started

A chamber meeting, where local business people network.

Chamber Updates

In addition to the normal Chamber activities including the monthly Business Community meetings and breakfast meetings, the Chamber has established two special initiatives which were launched at this year’s AGM.

Future Proofing Your Business

The first is titled ‘How to future proof your business’ which is a guide for local businesses on how to improve their impact on the environment and society, enabling a better future for all, while future proofing of businesses and community in and around Cirencester. This project is being headed up by Claire Walmsley Moss.

As a Chamber we believe that our role is to support the improvement of the prosperity of its members and as such we are all becoming more aware of the human impacts on the natural world including carbon, waste, biodiversity loss, injustice and regeneration.

To assist companies, we are running a series of ‘Future Proof Your Business ‘Lunch ‘n’ Learn’ monthly webinars on the first Tuesday of every month from February through to June. Each month there is a different topic ranging across carbon, nature, social value and much more with guest speakers showcasing their amazing achievements.

Go to the Chamber website to register at Eventbrite and you will receive the necessary link to join on the day. www.cirencesterchamber.org.uk

Apprentice Awareness Scheme

The second scheme is the Apprentice Awareness scheme heard up by Marc Begg last year’s Businessperson of the Year. – whereby the Chamber is looking to support local businesses and schools by promoting trade apprenticeships as a viable and practical alternative to a standard college degree.

Part one – We currently have a test programme in place at a supportive local school where the design technology students will design a garden bench with the winning design will be commissioned and will be manufactured by a local business.

Part two of the Awareness scheme is a ‘ Meet the business – introduction scheme  whereby businesses  sign up to be part of a friendly register where interested pupils can call to be informed of what an apprenticeship entails ans what life as a trade person entails.
