Local charity branch raises £15,000 for Parkinson’s UK
On 2nd September Kevin Young, chair of the Cirencester and Stroud branch of Parkinson’s UK, presented a cheque for £15,000 to Caroline Rassell, the charity’s CEO.
The donation was raised by a series of fundraising events held by the local branch during 2025 and is intended to help pay for essential research into the Parkinson’s, a neurological condition which is on the rise and has no cure. Members of the branch were involved in selecting the two projects that the donation will help fund: understanding the different causes of Parkinson’s dementia and growing brain cells to test new therapies.

The cheque presentation at the Cirencester Arena was followed by a special session of the branch’s regular “Parky Pals” walking football – hosted by Cirencester Phoenix Walking Football Club – which Caroline took part in together with members of both the Cirencester & Stroud and Swindon branches.
Kevin said, “We were delighted that Caroline was able to visit us today to receive our donation and experience one of the many activities the branch provides on a regular basis for its growing membership, including table tennis, Nordic walking and boxing. I’m so glad she experienced first-hand the contribution of the volunteers from Cirencester Phoenix Walking Football Club who play a vital role in the success of Parky Pals.”
Caroline said “The football session, as ever, was unifying and joyful. It was great to be able to talk to so many members – always good to hear what people are thinking, their worries. The contribution to our research programme is highly appreciated. A donation of the size of this really does make a difference.”
