Cirencester’s Parish Church passageway to be Re-laid

The work to replace the uneven and dangerous passageway leading from the Market Place into the Churchyard behind the Parish Church will start soon.

Thanks to the Heritage Lottery Fund- which has awarded a grant of £77,000 the Church Council is now in a position to place the contracts. Significant grants have already been made by the Kate Winstone Trust, The Bathurst Estate, The Benefact Trust, The Civic Society. The Police and Crime Commissioner, the County Council and the Town Council

The passageway will be repaved in natural stone and new lighting will be installed. A new gateway arch will be installed in the Market Place entrance.

Other structural repairs will be made at the same time to stabilise the retaining walls on the South side of the church and a new refuse store will be built.

Before the work starts an archaeologist will have to make some exploratory digs- part of the planning requirements which are inevitable in our roman town.

Plans of the project can be seen in the Parish Church.
