As 2023 Ladies’ Captain, Jan Lloyd, was determined that her year would be all about people both on and off the golf course, and doing everything she could to raise funds for her chosen Charity – CHYP. Helped by Club members, Sue Reid and Janet Peacock, an interesting programme of events throughout the year for all ages and abilities were arranged. These events were made possible because of generous pledges by local businesses, and the talented Golf Club members who ran or helped coordinate events, not to mention Jan’s incredible energy and commitment. The dizzying calendar of events kicked off with a clothes, coffee & cake morning, followed by a fashion show, glass workshops, art classes, fitness and wellbeing sessions, a musical evening, the production and sale of notecards, an Xmas Wreath making workshop, raffles, on-course golf challenges, and the sponsoring of monthly Sunday lunches. Some of the CHYP residents enjoyed a golf ‘taster session’ at the Club, followed by tea and cakes. With two of the young residents taking on their own homes during 2023, many Club ladies donated household items to help with the moves, which were gratefully received. With such positive support from CHYP and Golf Club, Jan raised £5,450. This was only made possible by Club members who gave up their time, donated items, or supported fundraising events. Without doubt the monies will help make a difference to this very important local Charity. Jan would like to thank everyone for their support and commitment to her and CHYP during 2023. Andy Johnson, Chair of Trustees, CHYP commented “We can’t believe how much Minchinhampton Golf Club Ladies managed to raise and more than that, how much you were able to add with all the other areas you and your team got involved with. This has been a wonderful example of how to work with a charity.  Truly exceptional.” Cirencester Housing for Young People (CHYP) provides supported accommodation to vulnerable young people between the ages of 16 and 25. Residents come from a variety of different backgrounds, and most have been made homeless as a result of a family breakdown, abuse or leaving care. Many have additional problems such as mental health issues or unidentified special educational needs. At CHYP we realise that simply providing safeaccommodation is not enough. We provide individual support to develop life skills focusing on self-care, continuing education, finding work and managing individual finance to achieve independent living. For further information about CHYP contact: Rebecca Cotton – rebecca.chyp@gmail.com 07870 808390
