AQIVA: Cirencester Amphitheatre Finds on Public Display for the First Time.

AQIVA (Friends of Cirencester Amphitheatre, Querns Wood and IV Acre Field) has produced a small display about the Amphitheatre which, in January and February, can be seen at the Local Information Centre, Bingham House 1, Dyer Street, Cirencester during office hours; https://cirencester.gov.uk/local-information-centre.

This is free and includes historical images, aerial views of the Amphitheatre and photos from the 2022 visit by the Ermine Street Guard.

Also, in partnership with the Corinium Museum, included is a small exhibition of Roman archaeology on public display for the first time. The artefacts on display were mostly uncovered during the excavation of the Amphitheatre back in the 1960s. In the exhibition are photos of very rare pieces from the same excavation which can be seen in the Museum.

This is the first time that these pieces have been brought together and made available for public display. From the Roman period they include Samian Pottery, a child’s marble, plaster from the Amphitheatre and, from more recent times, a 17^th Century musket ball.

AQIVA is a voluntary organisation dedicated to championing Cirencester Amphitheatre and its surrounding green spaces. New members are always welcome.
