In 2023 Barn Cinema launched National Theatre Live with a sell-out screening of Skylight. This January we hope to repeat the feat with Dear England, a play that spectacularly examines both nation and game, in which Joseph Fiennes plays Gareth Southgate, England’s Football Manager. There’s also Lorca’s Yerma starring Billie Piper, a play about a woman’s struggle to conceive that earned five-star reviews. Come and enjoy the theatre on screen.
We start the year with Disney’s Wish with some lovely animation and memorable songs, and Napoleon a spectacular epic from Ridley Scott. At the time of writing no one knows if either is nominated for an Oscar, but Oppenheimer and Barbie are widely tipped. Following exceptional demand, we are opening the Cinema on Friday 12th and Saturday 13th (for one weekend only) and this is your last chance to enjoy Barbie-Heimer, last year’s phenomenon, before they scoop up awards.
Michael Caine and Glenda Jackson were superb in The Great Escaper, and they should get recognised in the Baftas, so they are making a welcome return, this time with subtitles. If you know anyone who is hard of hearing, please tell them that there are 4 films with subtitles this month and we would love to find a big enough audience to make an escape to the cinema, a regular opportunity.
