Barn Cinema October 2026: Dress Up This Month!

History and Halloween – Dress up for Barn Cinema!

How can you add to the incredible Cirencester History Festival? The Barn is pleased not just to host some incredible talks, but to be included in the main programme for showing Ghosts: The Possession of Button House, which we hope will inspire a new generation of historians. The film, a brand-new release, is on sale via cirencesterhistoryfestival.org. Fancy dress is encouraged at this, and indeed any of our screenings!

There’s aHalloween theme to Shaun the Sheep: The Beast of Mossy Bottom. The clumsy farmer ruins the pumpkin patch, then goes missing. Shaun tries to fix things with science. You could come as a farmyard character or something associated with Halloween. Anything goes these days.

Also included in the festival is Savage House, an outrageous comedy about social climbing and the pox starring Richard E Grant and Claire Foy. This is one of two films set in the 18th century; the other is Sense and Sensibility, an “irresistible retelling” of Austen’s tale of love and sisterhood. Stockings and garters optional.

The festival is bookended by the biggest French film project of the year, a biopic of De Gaulle. This near 6-hour tale will be shown over two evenings with intermissions. The reviews are ‘magnifique’. If you like epics, then we are repeating The Odyssey, a mere 3 hours long!

Critics are praising Pressure too, starring Andrew Scott as Captain Stagg, a D-Day meteorologist and Brendan Fraser as Eisenhower. Predicting the weather has never been so exciting.

Cotswolds: Field and Folk is a slice of history today. This documentary looks at a year in the life of the Cotswolds and follows those who care for and look after our landscape. Muddy wellies discouraged.

Finally, Scream (1996) has spawned six sequels and is being screened as a late-night treat on Halloween. Come ‘dressed to kill’ to the Teatro bar for spooky cocktails and round off your evening with the original and best slasher movie. Costumes are encouraged but most of all, just have a great night out!
