The winners of the BAFTAs are announced on Sunday 16 February and it Is expected that Conclave and Wicked will come away with a win in at least one category. Nosferatu and Kneecap have 5 and 6 nominations respectively and hopefully won’t go home disappointed either.
Nosferatu is a reimagined Dracula story, and Kneecap is a comedy with a cult following set in Belfast that champions the Gaelic language and stars Michael Fassbender.
Daniel Craig was a surprise snub for his role as a lonely immigrant in Queer; Andrew Garfield received some praise for his part in We Live In Time, a non-linear love story; but surely Ralph Fiennes in Conclave will win Best Actor in his home country! There is stiff competition from actors whose films we are showing in March, so let’s see.
Activity at The Barn usually focuses on the stage so we are pleased to host screenings of the National Theatre’s The Importance of Being Ernest and Cameron Mackintosh’s Les Misérables (2019) starring Michael Ball and Alfie Boe. Wicked started life as a stage production and we are naturally getting big audiences, so that makes a welcome return. As does a certain crowd-pulling marmalade-loving bear from Peru!
