A free public screening of the People’s Emergency Briefing will take place at the Royal Agricultural University in Cirencester on Thursday 25 June at 7.30pm.
Introduced by Chris Packham, the People’s Emergency Briefing was launched nationwide on 7th April and sets out the implications of climate and nature breakdown for food security, public health, infrastructure, the economy and national security, alongside evidence-based actions that could reduce these risks. Running for 50-minutes, it’s an adaptation of the National Emergency Briefing event held in November 2025 when more than 1,200 MPs, peers and leaders from business, culture, faith, sport and the media gathered at Westminster Central Hall to assess the UK’s exposure to climate and nature risks.
Following the film, the audience will be invited to take part in a structured discussion, designed to support an open, constructive conversation about the issues raised and what they may mean locally. We hope to have a video message from South Cotswold MP Roz Savage, who is not able to attend in person due to parliamentary business, as well key members of both Cirencester Town Council and Cotswold District Council. Local climate/nature groups have been invited to attend and take part in this important community event.
The Cirencester community screening is part of a nationwide programme designed to help ensure that both the public and decision-makers are clearly and honestly informed about the climate and nature crisis – and what it may mean for communities across the country. By bringing together leading scientists to present a clear picture of the challenges ahead, the film creates space for local communities to consider what these issues may mean in their local area, and how they can support their MP to call for stronger action.

Even though polling shows that 83% of people in Britain support stronger climate action, many people who care about these issues still hesitate to attend an event that they believe is only for those already engaged. Which is why this screening, like hundreds of others that are happening all over the country, is open to all in an effort to ensure that both the public and decision-makers are clearly and honestly informed about the climate and nature crisis.
Chris Packham said: ‘I’d encourage people everywhere to attend a screening of the People’s Emergency Briefing. It creates exactly the kind of honest local conversation we now urgently need, both about what these changes mean where we live, and about what we can do together to address them.’
In Cirencester, the screening comes at a time when seasonal weather extremes – Gloucestershire was the driest county in the west in 2025 – continue to adversely affect the area’s farms, waterways and residents.
