What an amazing month and start to summer!

From a personal point of view, June ended on a high with a superb visit to see the latest show at the Barn Theatre, Million Dollar Quartet. It’s on until mid August, so if you want to sing along to the best of Johnny Cash, Jerry Lee Lewis, Carl Perkins and Elvis Presley, do go along. Take your dancing shoes too – you never know what might happen!
I also had the privilege of joining the judging panel for Cirencester Rotary’s School Public Speaking Showcase. Students from four local schools, aged between 12 and 15yrs, introduced their chosen topic with judges looking for clarity of thought (which they displayed in bucketfuls!) and presentation skills which were evident across all age groups. It was a pleasure and an honour to see such a high standard achieved by our young residents.
It’s the final year, ever, for the Fresh Air Sculpture show so we were so pleased to meet the Curator, Stephanie Cushing, as she led a tour for the latest Society Social for Cirencester Civic Society. It was amazing to see such an assortment of pieces, large and small, created from a range of materials, all on display in the gardens of Quenington Rectory. Last day is 5th July so dash along now!
And now to July. What a selection! Pop along to Abbey Grounds on Sundays, 2.30pm for free open-air concerts as part of the Bands in the Park Series. Join in the Cotswold Show and Food Festival taking place 4th and 5th July. Enjoy Hot Food, Live Music, takeaway treats and unique crafts from local producers on 11th and 25th July at Cirencester’s Twilight Market in the Market Place. Book your tickets for an evening of music and poetry with David Dimbleby on Friday 17 July at Cirencester Parish Church. Hosted by Dame Fiona Reynolds, in aid of the High Sherriff’s Fund grant programme which aims to encourage young people at risk of becoming involved with crime to participate in challenging activities.
And finally (although there are lots more going on), make sure you enter Cirencester Rotary Club’s photography competition. This year’s theme is Historical Cirencester in the 21st Century with prizes for under 18 and over 18 categories. Check out last year’s winning entries below. Working in conjunction with Cirencester Civic Society, the winning entries will be displayed in the Daniel Bingham Foundation Gallery during this year’s History Festival.
