Friday 1st May saw the inaugural CIA Shield deliver an outstanding evening of grassroots rugby, community spirit, and fundraising success at Cirencester Rugby Club, raising a total of £1,592.17 for Maddy’s Mark.
A partnership between CIA Fire & Security and Cirencester RFC, the event brought together players, families, and supporters from across the local area for a celebration of rugby at grassroots level. From the opening minis fixtures to the showcase match, the evening highlighted the strength of community support and the positive impact sport can have both on and off the pitch.
The showcase match saw the Cotswold Lionesses put in a dominant performance, securing a 31–0 victory over Tetbury. Despite the scoreline, Tetbury never gave up and embodied the very essence of grassroots rugby.
A special highlight of the evening was the presence of CIA-sponsored athlete and Rugby World Cup-winner, Tatyana Heard, who spent time chatting with supporters throughout the evening. Tatyana was full of praise for the standard of rugby on display, commenting on the impressive talent across all age groups. As well as handing out the medals and trophies, she also took time to pose for photos with both young players and adults, creating lasting memories for many in attendance.
Off the pitch, the charity raffle – supported by a wide range of local businesses – played a key role in the fundraising total.
Mark McCormick, Operations Director at CIA Fire & Security said: “The CIA Shield was everything we hoped it would be: a fantastic community event, some great rugby on display, and a brilliant atmosphere throughout. We’re absolutely delighted to have raised such a significant amount for Maddy’s Mark, a charity doing truly important work. Thank you so much to everyone who supported, attended, or donated; especially those who helped behind the scenes. It really was a fantastic effort from everyone involved.”
Maddy’s Mark, a charity dedicated to supporting the mental wellbeing of girls and young women through rugby, will directly benefit from the funds raised – which were enough to provide support for more than 63 girls.
Following such a strong debut, plans are already being considered for the return of The CIA Shield in 2027.
