On 25th October the Chamber held the first of its new format themed business community meetings centred around the theme of innovation upstairs at the Growth Hub.
From the outset this was destined to be a success judging by the number of people who registered. Over 50 people booked in – some were maybe tempted by the venue, or the food, or the prospect of alcohol, but above all it had to be the draw of our guest speaker that brought them in! Ben Edmonds – Designer, Inventor, Entrepreneur and Engineer – is regarded as a leading voice in innovation and creative thinking, transformative workplace leadership and teamwork.
Ben’s story is truly unique and left us all inspired by what he has achieved so far. It’s amazing to think he decided at 12 what he wanted to do with his life and twenty years later having been a principal designer at Dyson, he is now working on a range of exciting new design projects. Following the presentation from Ben we had a fascinating Q and A involving a local panel of experts and we discussed what were the positives and negatives of running a business in Cirencester. We concluded that Cirencester was a great place to live and work but that there was an ongoing problem with car parking, a lack of young people to enter the workplace and interestingly post Covid a real problem with obtaining office and factory workspace.
Following the discussion, we enjoyed some delicious refreshments and all present gave a big thumbs up in support of the new meeting format.
This year’s Chamber Christmas Party is on Dec 6th at Watermoor Point 6-8pm.
