What a dreary month! Only warm, sugar and honey-drizzled pancakes to look forward to … unless you happen to live in Cirencester of course, then there is a lot to plan and get excited about!
Let’s start with the Cirencester Community Awards. This is the third year for this amazing opportunity to say “thank you” to all those wonderful individuals, charities and groups who do so much for our town. Organised by Cirencester Radio, in partnership with CCDT (Cirencester Community Development Trust), applications are now open for you to nominate someone for an award. There are five categories (Young Community Champion (18-25), team, project, sustainability and Cirencester Champion) with the awards presented on Monday 27th April. Details from: www.CirencesterRadio.co.uk
The free organ recitals at St John Baptist Church are proving extremely popular so grab a seat at the next one on Wednesday 4th February 1.10pm, when Timothy Selman from Lincoln Cathedral will be our guest. And, for those who just love our Parish Church, why not volunteer to be a Guide? Contact Sarah Marshall on office@cirenparish.co.uk
Pop in to the Daniel Bingham Gallery on Dyer Street and see the free exhibition, ‘On The Back of an Envelope’showcasing a wonderful collection of art looking at thoughts and ideas which often started on the back of an envelope. Look out for the yellow hanging sign and floor stickers guiding you through the double doors towards the Gallery.
And here is another opportunity to support a good cause. St John’s Hospital is an Almshouse charity with 25 properties in the centre of the town as well as the 12th century Chantry of the Hospital of St John Evangelist and two allotment sites. The charity, which plays a key role in our community, conserving and safeguarding our heritage is looking for new Trustees to help steer the charity through its next period of development. Applications are welcomed from all ages and backgrounds, whether you are an experienced Trustee or wanting to take your first step at Board level. Contact Meg Blumsom, Chair of the Trustees (megblumsom@gmail.com or 01285 657696) for an informal chat.
Well, that’s all for this month but do keep in touch (email me: caroleboydell@gmail.com or call 07776 144033) and let me know if you are planning a great event over the next few months – and watch this space!
