Somewhere Else Writers (SEW) Jan 24: Monday Morning by Norman Smith

Norman Smith

Norman Smith started writing at school for the magazine The Retfordian. Then, when he was a student, he wrote short stories for The Irish Mountaineering Club magazine on his climbing exploits in Ireland, Scotland, Wales and the Alps. Later in Japan he became acquainted with their short poems called haiku; these have been his inspiration for writing in which he has expressed contemporary thoughts in the haiku short form. He loves the fact that there are no capitals or punctuation!

For him writing is about recording thoughts and feelings about people and place. It’s a joy for him to portray love in words. Somewhere Else Writers Group in Cirencester have encouraged him to explore his work with positive encouragement and care. In his spare time he reads and visits Cotswold Saxon churches.

Monday Morning
Didn’t pack five shirts last night
Haven’t risen at six

Look out the window
Watch them going to work

Coffee in bed
Monday morning with you
