Keeping you in touch with who is doing what, where and when
Welcome Splendid September!

What’s not to like about the month of September? The slow meander towards autumn – yet still so much happening around the area.
But first, a little look back to a couple of events I was pleased to attend. You can see from the photograph, those Barton Street Allotmenteers are a creative lot! I’m not sure who won the competition for the best use of locally grown produce but number 27 certainly got my vote! What a wonderful way to spend a lazy afternoon, admiring the hard work of all those allotment holders.

I also had a splendid time at the launch of the Phoenix Festival at the end of the month. This amazing festival is still free to attend and really champions local talent in all sorts of ways – roll on 2026. Get it in your diary now!
But looking forward to this month, I’m going to be venturing out a little to support all our wonderful makers who will be at Rodmarton Manor 10 – 14 September. The Crafts Alive festival showcases the Gloucestershire Guild of Craftsmen – the oldest Guild in the country – and I am so excited to let you know that two of our most experienced makers will be appearing ‘in conversation’ as part of the Cirencester History Festival. Brunch at the Kings Head anyone? Don’t forget to sign up for the newsletter, pick up a programme and start booking your tickets. It’s a tremendous line up.
There is also the chance to listen to two concerts. On Wednesday 3rd September, the Parish Church hosts the International Organ Festival featuring our very own organist and choirmaster. Doors open 7.30pm. And on Sunday 7th September, from 2.30pm there is another free concert in the Bands in the Park series.
Many of you will know of the huge impact the Arts and Crafts Movement made on our region’s churches – from church building to stained glass, from woodcarving to conservation. If you are free on Monday 15th September, join a wonderful talk, starting 7.30pm at the Ashcroft Church when Cirencester Civic Society host Kirsty Hartsiotis as she explores the impact of designers and makers from William Morris to 20th century artists such as Edward Payne who worked in the tradition. Members are free, visitors donation £3 on the door.
Well, that’s all for this month but do keep in touch (email me: caroleboydell@gmail.com or call 07776 144033) and let me know if you are planning a great event over the next few months – and watch this space!
