Keeping you in touch with who is doing what, where and when
Welcome to Marvellous March! You can tell I’m on a roll with my alliterations … but what to do about next month? Suggestions for a suitable word (positive please) beginning with the letter A for April gratefully received!
But for now, on to news about happenings in Marvellous March.
First off, New Brewery Arts has the most amazing exhibition of work by craftspeople aged 25 and under. All pieces are selected by New Brewery Arts and Heritage Crafts with the aim of highlighting the wealth of skill and imagination in the hands of young makers. The exhibition is called ‘AND the work goes on’ and runs until 24th May. www.breweryarts.org.uk
There is a fantastic exhibition at Corinium Museum – but you will have to be quick to catch it because it closes on Saturday 15th March! Mammoths have made their way into the Museum as part of a special exhibition of finds from the Mammoth Graveyard in Cerney Wick from the 2017 dig as well as new finds from the site uncovered in 2024. More information from www.coriniummuseum.org
Continuing the history theme, ever wondered how our very own open air pool came about? Cirencester’s natural spring-fed pool was originally opened in 1869, and if that whet your appetite to know more, come along to Ashcroft Church Hall on Monday 17th March 7.30pm and join Jeremy Lake who is talking about the history of open-air pools and lidos in Britain including the open-air pool in Cirencester. Organised by Cirencester Civic Society, it’s free entry for members or a donation on the door for visitors. Details from www.ccsoc.org.uk

Now, as we look forward to the weather turning ever so slightly warmer, why not wander into the Abbey Grounds and take a look at the gorgeous wood carvings depicting what Cirencester is famous for: the Phoenix, the Cotswold Lion Sheep and the Cirencester Hare, brought to life by wood artist Andy O’Neil using a felled diseased Beech tree.
Community Awards 2025

And finally – a reminder to nominate your favourite person or group for an award at the Cirencester Community Awards 2025. There are five awards to choose from: three for organisations (Team, Sustainability and Special Community Project) and two for individuals, Cirencester Champion and Young Community Entrepreneur. The closing date is Friday 14th March and awards will be announced at an event on Friday 28th March. It’s so easy to enter, just go to www.CirencesterRadio.co.uk or pick up a print copy from The Town Council. Cirencester Community Awards are brought to you by Cirencester Radio and Cirencester Community Development Trust.
That’s all for this month but do keep in touch (email me: caroleboydell@gmail.com or call 07776 144033) and let me know if you are planning a great event over the next few months – and watch this space!
