Keeping you in touch with who is doing what, where and when

Hello May! Home of two Bank Holidays, Tetbury Woolsack Race and the Eurovision Song Contest. What’s not to like?

But let’s start closer to home with the opportunity to support a great cause – and feel healthier for doing it! On Saturday 9 May, The Churn Community Hub (formerly The Churn Project) is encouraging everyone (and their dog) to sign up to walk approximately 25km (15 miles) of the River Churn to celebrate the charity’s 25th anniversary and raise vital funds. Walkers will set off between 8 and 9 am from Seven Springs near Cheltenham and head off to the finish line at the charity’s offices in The Waterloo, Cirencester, passing through some of the Cotswolds’ most beautiful scenery. With no parking available at the start, free transport kindly provided by Ellison’s Coaches will leave Cirencester at 8.30 am to deliver registered walkers to the departure point. Details from www.thechurn.org.uk

May also brings some amazing markets to our town. Organised by Cirencester Town Council, every weekend you will find a different take on the traditional market place starting with a Twilight Market on the 9th, a Food and Lifestyle Festival on the 16thand ending with a Cirencester Asia Carnival on the 30th and 31st and lots more inbetween. Check out the Local Information Centre in Bingham House for more information.

Been to the BAFTA’s this year? Me neither…but I am going to the Cirencester Community Awards 2026! What a night! And by the time you read this, lots of community organisations, charities and local groups (not to mention Community Champions) will have been photographed in front of the backdrop you can see at the bottom of the page. Well done everyone who entered! We were entertained by the wonderful Tutti Flutti Community Flute Choir and the renowned Alex Steele Trio, fresh from the JAZZ Cave at the Museum. With awards presented by the Vice Lord-Lieutenant of Gloucestershire, it was a fabulous way to say “thank you” to those people who do so much for Cirencester.
