Fancy a freebie? Take your pick from TWENTY venues and activities around town – all FREE TO ENTER on 11, 12, 13 September as part of HERITAGE OPEN CIRENCESTER, England’s largest festival of history and culture.
Here are some ideas to whet your appetite but there are so many amazing ideas. Please check out www.cirencestercivicsociety.org.uk for more details or pick up a programme from the Information Centres in town. Please note some events require tickets to be booked.
On Friday 11th:
- join a new guided walk (for one day only) around Cirencester Park exploring 18 century heritage to WW11 history
- listen to the story of the Parish Church organ with musical interludes bringing history to life
- see inside Cirencester’s Lock-up – originally built in 1804 to hold local trouble-makers
On Saturday 12th:
- take an exclusive architectural tour inside Bingham House
- sign up for a free session at Corinium Museum to learn how medieval monks created monster drawings – and then create your own
- tour the wonderful micro-brewery of Corinium Ales
On Sunday 13th:
- take a look around the Friends Meeting House and watch the video about Cirencester’s oldest domestic building, Weavers Hall, just opposite.
- hear Cirencester Band in concert in Abbey Grounds.
- book your seat at the Barn Theatre/Cinema to watch historic films of Cirencester, including Queen Elizabeth 11’s visit in 1963.
Heritage Open Cirencester is hosted by Cirencester Civic Society, supported by Daniel Bingham Foundation and the many businesses, charities, organisations and volunteers taking part in Heritage Open Cirencester.
