March at Barn Cinema 2025

All the best from Hollywood and The West End

The Baftas brought success for British film Conclave, and many will be hoping for a repeat at the Oscars on 2 March. On foreign soil, nothing is predictable, even another win for Peter Straughan and his adaptation of Robert Harris’s book. The win may go to Nickel Boys, based on the Pulitzer Prize-winning novel by Colson Whitehead, an American classic.

The awards for Best Original Screenplay and Best Supporting Actor seem set to go to Jessie Eisenberg and Kieran Culkin for A Real Pain, a buddy movie about cousins visiting their family roots.

The Awards for Best Picture and the other acting categories are harder to predict. The Brutalist, Emilia Perez, The Substance and Anora are all strong contenders, but the public’s love of Bob Dylan may send an award or two in the direction of A Complete Unknown.

Finally, a reminder that we have some excellent screenings of live theatre on offer too. David Tennant is “enthralling” in Macbeth (***** Telegraph) and Steve Coogan shows great promise in a new stage version of many people’s favourite film, Dr Strangelove.

Coming soon: Jesus Christ Superstar, I’m Still Here, Maria, Bridget Jones 4, Mufasa and more,
