Walking Cricket takes place at Cirencester Leisure Centre on Tetbury Road, GL7 1US every Thursday from 11:30 to 12:30. It offers a welcoming, slower-paced version of the game designed for men and women, whether you are completely new to cricket or returning after many years away. Sessions focus on enjoyment, gentle movement, and meeting new people. We use fibre glass bats and softballs, and all equipment is provided. One of our participants described his experience of Walking Cricket by saying “Participating in walking cricket has been beneficial to my mental health and provided me with a feeling of belonging to a caring and supportive group”.
At the Gloucestershire Cricket Foundation, we believe in using the power of cricket to improve lives, by bringing people together, and creating opportunities that people may not otherwise have the chance to experience. Walking Cricket is one of the clearest examples of this. Our hubs across the county continue to grow, welcoming people who may have thought their playing days were behind them. Many participants talk about how long it has been since they last picked up a bat, often with a smile as their confidence returns and familiar skills reappear.
The adapted format makes the game more accessible, removing barriers that can prevent people from taking part. With no running and a relaxed, friendly environment, Walking Cricket allows everyone to get involved at a pace that suits them. Beyond the physical benefits, these sessions create valuable opportunities for connection, helping reduce isolation and giving people something to look forward to each week. Participants regularly tell us they come for the cricket but stay for the friendships, and that sense of togetherness sits at the heart of every session.
