What’s on at The Barn Cinema in September?

In a full month of great films, we lead with a double screening of The Ballad of Wallis Island, the sleeper hit of independent cinema this Summer. This big-hearted comedy is perfect to share with family, perhaps even those who are hard of hearing.  As with all we show, please do your research by checking on YouTube and looking at review sites like Rotten Tomatoes.

If potty humour is more your thing, then the sequel to The Bad Guys is coming, as is the reboot of The Naked Gun with Liam Neeson and Pamela Anderson, and there’s great chemistry between them. There are also laughs to be had from Superman, who returns courtesy of James Gunn, the director of Guardians of the Galaxy, and this time our superhero is dog-sitting while saving the world!

The creative team that brought you National Theatre’s Prima Facie are back with Inter Alia, starring Oscar-nominated Rosamund Pike (Gone Girl, Saltburn). It’s ‘electrifying’ (Daily Mail). As is the latest concert from Strauss-inspired conductor Andre Rieu, playing The Blue Danube alongside The Macarena in his hometown of Maastricht.

Danny Boyle’s 28 Years Later shows a world in meltdown from a biological catastrophe, with Ralph Fiennes at his horrific best. For balance, David Attenborough in Ocean offers grounds for optimism that our seas might recover from the environmental mess they are now in. Both are available to stream, but look far better at the cinema.

Finally, do come and support the Cheltenham International Film Festival. They have chosen us to host two of their selections this year: Sundance festival winner Sorry, Baby and Golden Globe-nominated The Last Showgirl with Pamela Anderson (again), giving a stellar performance.
