During September, the Corinium Players Guitar Ensemble (affectionally knowns as CPs) celebrated their 25th Anniversary of classical guitar ensemble playing. Founded in 1999 by Sandra Dukes with just 6 players the Group has grown considerably. It became a Registered Charity in 2001.
The Group have been lucky enough to tour to many areas of the UK, also Germany and Holland, all by invitation. The have also had the opportunity to perform alongside many professional guitarists from the UK and Europe and showcasing at the World Youth Guitar Festival. Another highlight was performing to HRH Prince Edward during the 60th Anniversary year of the Duke of Edinburgh Awards.
Performing to a capacity audience, the Ensemble comprised of 47 players, both past and present, played an eclectic mix of pieces from Spanish to easy listening under the leadership of Sandra Dukes. Many ex-players travelled from all over the UK and Scotland to join in the celebration and some hadn’t played their guitars for many years! This was followed by a delicious dinner provided by Meliny Tim from The Kitchen Club.
Over the past 25 years, Sandra and husband Trevor have brought together children and adults from all corners of Gloucestershire, Wiltshire and Oxfordshire to enjoy playing the classical guitar in an ensemble setting. The warmth and happiness of bringing the CP family back together through their love of music was apparent throughout the evening. Following the dinner and ceremony of cutting the huge cake, the Ensemble performed again to round off the evening.
The Ensemble presented Sandra and Trevor with many gifts of appreciation to thank them both for their hard work and dedication.
The Group will be holding their annual Christmas Concert at the Baptist Church on Saturday 21st December at 12noon.
