Alex Ide PT: Consistency – Why it matters for you 30+ Gym goers

with Personal Trainer Alex Ide

The phrase consistency key is known and for good reason. This is the key to success in almost everything in life; money, healthy relationships, confidence, body transformations.

It just takes showing up for yourself on multiple occasions, be it at the gym, getting out of bed after a poor night’s sleep, or going to work after a hard day prior. And sometimes, showing up for yourself, is reflected in knowing when you are doing too much, pushing your body, mind and soul too hard.

Consistency in the gym is showing up on the hard days and knowing it may not be the best session or you feel weak or tired. But you showed up and got it done.  Maybe you dialled back a little and missed an exercise or two from your programme, maybe you focused on gentle movements or skipped the workout and went for a walk or a nap … yes, a nap!  Consistency is showing up in many different forms and listening to the body on those particularly stressed times.

Most days you need to move, some days you may need to reflect, and some, you may just need to take a moment and breathe – it’s all progress when you are looking after yourself.

To make progress in life we do need consistency. I fear we get too hooked on how many steps, minutes, and progress we made that day, rather than zooming out and looking at the progress you made over a month or a year.

It’s easy to beat yourself up on those days we “didn’t do enough”, the next day is there to try again and get back to it.
