It’s Summer so Barn Cinema has films for kids, that adults will also love. Many are successful franchises so need little introduction.
The first three are animations: The Garfield Movie has been a hit with audiences and is now the highest-grossing film in that franchise with Chris Pratt taking over vocal duties as the lethargic lasagne-loving feline who hates Mondays; Despicable Me 4 stars those pesky yellow minions and their leader Gru, as they enter a world of espionage; and thirdly global blockbuster Inside Out 2 follows Riley into adolescence as she encounters new emotions and struggles to keep them under control.
Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes is an exciting reboot. Its tale of a future earth where humans are slaves to Simians is bold and cinematic and deserves to be seen on as big a screen as possible.
IF stands for Imaginary Friend and is a mix of animation and live-action from director John Krasinski. In it, a young girl undergoing trauma sees the imaginary friends left behind as their children grow up.
A Quiet Place: Day One is a franchise started by Krasinski but rated 15 is considered too scary for most kids. It’s an origin story about aliens with hyper-sensitive hearing. Watching it in a cinema with a hushed crowd heightens the experience.
Beyond the franchises, Barn Cinema is showing Kinds of Kindness, an independent film from Yorgos Lanthimos whose last, Poor Things, won awards last year. It is an absurdist black comedy that has divided opinions; so come along and decide for yourself.
Finally, we offer you a beautiful documentary called Wilding about the Knepp estate where native ponies, pigs and other wildlife have been reintroduced, helping nature to thrive. I hope it is the first of many.
