Nine local writers join forces to showcase love in all its shapes and forms on stage.
In a company first, local community drama group Cirencester Theatre Company will perform a showcase of original pint-size scenes about love at the Corinium Ales brewery in May.
All the scenes of the play Love on Tap were written by members of the group independently, to a brief encouraging them to explore love of any kind in the context of a pub in a small Cotswold town with just a small stage, a bar, and two bartenders to surround their characters. The submitted scenes were then selected and curated by Director Katy Sorensen to create one cohesive, connected story.
With subject matter ranging from life-long friendship to instant attraction, parenting to grief, and first dates to marriage, the unique script is full to the brim with funny, thoughtful and heartwarming moments that celebrate love in its many delightful forms.
In one scene called The Dating Dilemma, a nervous Matt thinks he is on a date with his oldest friend Jess, but this is much less clear to her. In Magic Mike Night,a group of tipsy hens mistake a singer for a male dancer, with hilarious consequences. And, in Love is Dead, two old friends discuss their unusual way of ensuring they spend quality time together.
Director Katy Sorensen said “We were bowled over by the fantastic writing talent among our group. They have pooled their life experiences and writing skills to give us such a rich and varied picture of love, brought to life by our wonderful company of local actors ranging from 18 to 80+.”
Love on Tap will be performed on Thursday 17 May 7-9pm, Saturday 19 May 7-9pm and Sunday 20 May 3-5pm. Tickets are on sale at www.cirencestertheatrecompany.co.uk/whats-on
