Keeping you in touch with who is doing what, where and when
Everyone excited about January? Signed up for the new exercise class yet?
It’s the new year and we all have great expectations about cutting out chocolate and cakes and doing more energetic things like running and weightlifting – but really? I’m going to be a bit controversial and suggest you can create that feel-good feeling simply by offering to help someone. Whether it’s your neighbour who is struggling to get to the shops or a local charity looking for volunteers, why not make your 2026 resolution to ‘do your bit’ for your local community?
As we pack away the Christmas decorations, open up the volunteering box! We are very fortunate to have so many wonderful groups in Cirencester, but many rely on people giving their time to help out. Sometimes, it might be giving a few hours a month to a group such as Rotary who raise money for good causes (www.cirencesterrotary.co.uk) or perhaps you could share your experience to help young children at a local school with their reading. If you are looking for a more formal volunteering role, why not contact Cirencester Open Air Pool who are looking for a Chair and a Treasurer. At 155 years old, the pool is reportedly the second oldest in the country, holding a very special place in people’s hearts. Contact: volunteer.team@cirenopenair.org.uk
And if you are already involved in a community group or charity, you might like to nominate someone for a Cirencester Community Award. Organised by Cirencester Radio each year (who are always on the lookout for new volunteer Presenters – training provided), applications will be available mid-January from their website www.CirencesterRadio.co.uk
