Quaker Meeting House, 53 Thomas Street, Cirencester GL7 2BA
Saturday 14 September 11.30- 1.00pm Built in 1673, Cirencester Meeting House is one of the oldest meeting houses in the world, retaining many of its original architectural features and a library of ancient books.
Tour the building and burial ground/garden and learn about the turbulent history of The Religious Society of Friends.
Weavers Hall, Thomas Street, Cirencester
14 September 1.30pm – 4pm Meet at Quakers Meeting House, Thomas Street, Cirencester GL7 2BA
Tea and cake served at Quakers Meeting House by Civic Society members, followed by escorted tours of Grade II* listed building, Weavers Hall opposite, to view painting on one of the internal walls depicting the Royal Coat of Arms of James I in 1606.
Air Raid Shelter, Memorial Hospital Car Park, Sheep Street, Cirencester GL7 1QW
Saturday 14 September 10.30 – 4.30pm; Sunday 15 September 2.00 – 4.30pm The exhibition “Wartime Life in the Cotswolds” is housed on the site of the former Memorial Hospital. The medical and military exhibits are housed in the air raid shelter and civilian services and domestic life in the hospital cottages adjacent.
St John’s Hospital and Chantry, 5 Spitalgate Lane, Cirencester GL7 2DE
Saturday 14 September 2.00 – 4.00pm The hospital was founded by King Henry II in 1169. The arcade on the ground floor was the central portion of the chantry chapel. Drop by and speak to a Trustee about the building works currently taking place.
Cirencester Open Air Swimming Pool, Riverside Walk, Cirencester GL7 2EF
14 September and 15 September 10.30 – 1.30pm Visit one of the oldest heated outdoor swimming pools in the UK. It has been in continuous use for 150 years. Much of the original mechanics can be seen, as can the well that provides the spring water for the pool.
Royal Agricultural University, Stroud Road, Cirencester GL7 6JS
Sunday 15 September 1.00 – 4.00pm Founded in 1845, the Royal Agricultural University has been part of Cirencester for almost two centuries. Enjoy a guided tour of the University’s main building which includes an historic Dining Hall, a beautiful Quad and clocktower, and Tithe Barn.
