Fern & Ivy first opened its doors almost 3 years ago and Kate has loved becoming a part of the community in Cirencester. Born from both a love of indoor plants and a number of years in the education sector, Kate left teaching to start her own business in 2021. Here’s her story.
I loved my job as Head of Languages, but I was looking for a new challenge. Over lockdown, I developed a love of indoor plants and tasked myself with studying with the RHS to learn all I could about their care requirements. I launched a Facebook page selling a few plants and this quickly developed into a website and then, whilst holding a market stall in the Corn Hall, I came across the shop. We opened the doors in October 2021 and haven’t looked back.
We really pride ourselves on giving straightforward, honest plant care advice and often run workshops to share our knowledge. Houseplants can have a really positive impact on our health and we believe that they should be a feature in every home and workspace. There’s something quite special about bringing nature into our personal spaces.
The shop has grown and improved over the years and along with some beautiful plants, pots, gifts, books and even greetings cards, we also host a variety of workshops after hours and have some great events and giveaways lined up.
In September, we have a plant and pot giveaway which is free to enter when visiting the shop. We are also planning a discount day at the end of the month too. Our stock is always changing, so it’s always worth a visit to see what’s new.
