Try Something New at Barn Cinema June 26– and win a prize!

The theme of The Big Lunch this year is ‘Try Something New’. When this superb community event closes at 6 pm, we invite you to come to The Barn and carry on the free festival vibe with a screening of Glastonbury: Thirty Summers On at 7 pm. Dip in and experience the good vibes of the nineties, a time before the BBC adopted it and adapted it, and when the fences were still permeable. The documentary is not narrated and portrays the festival as a warm communal hug. What’s more, you get a chance of winning free DVD box sets, CD’s and Posters. There’s no catch; We simply hope that at some point you will buy a ticket online so that we can send you details of future screenings.

This month, we also have our usual fix of West-End theatre on screen, and a heady cocktail of blockbusters and high-class independent cinema. So, something for everyone, including those needing subtitles (but not from any festival-related hearing loss we trust!).

Our National Theatre Live offer is JM Synge’s The Playboy of the Western World, an Irish Classic that shocked audiences in the early twentieth century. Synge has been compared to Tarantino by The Guardian. What do you think?

The Blockbusters are Michael, the fairytale biopic from the Jackson Estate; The Devil Wears Prada 2, the glorious return of Meryl Streep; and The Sheep Detectives, where Midsommer Murders meets Babe.

Check out the trailers on YouTube.

Finally, we have The Drama, an innovative movie with a challenging theme. It shouldn’t work but does, although perhaps in an intoxicated kind of way. It’s different, it’s new – come and try it.
