How did Anne Boleyn’s communion cup end up in Cirencester? What has the church tower got to do with public executions? Where in the church can you find an eagle, an elephant and Roman column?

If you are curious about those sorts of questions, and would like to learn more about your town and also want an opportunity to volunteer then becoming a guide in the Parish Church might suit you. At the moment our friendly team of guides are looking for a few more volunteers to join us. We provide training and support and offer a flexible system of commitment, depending on individuals’ preferences, (usually two to three sessions per month) with tours between March and October.
There is no need to attend church, a sense of enjoying sharing such a beautiful building with others is what is needed. If you think this might suit you, please get in touch via Sarah Marshall in the Parish Office (office@cirenparish.co.uk or 01285 659317) to find out more.
Some of our current guides have said:

Learning to be a guide helped me to learn more about my town and its history as well as just learning about the church itself. The more you uncover, the more interesting it is, and the more you realise you have to learn”
“Helping children learn about the church is wonderful. They really enjoy seeing the building as a site of exciting stories, like the beheading of earls or of prisoners being held captive in the Civil War. I hope our tours help them to develop their sense of curiosity”
