Walking Football 4 over 50s – Free Taster Session 27th April!

A walking football club for the over 50s

Time to give it a try?

Free Taster Session 27th April!
The story of Cirencester Phoenix Walking Football Club (CPWFC) began on a memorable day: December 12th, 2014. As history shows, nothing comes to life without someone taking the initiative. On that day, ten players aged 50-plus stepped onto the pitch, and with them, the CPWFC journey began.

Fast-forward to 2025, and the club now has over sixty active members. The club remains true to its roots, with its members running it for the benefit of its members. It is open to anyone aged 50 and above who wishes to stay active and healthy, refusing to hang up their football boots and retire from the game they love. The success of Cirencester Phoenix Walking Football Club is primarily founded on respect, enjoyment, and mutual support, regardless of the participant’s skill level.

The club now runs twice-weekly mixed-aged and mixed-ability sessions on Tuesday and Friday (usually 3 pm – 4 pm) at Cirencester Arena, Kingshill Lane. It always runs four competitive and friendly squads for age-specific groups, who currently participate in the Gloucestershire FA Walking Football League, as well as other competitions andtournaments throughout the year. These squads cater to participants aged 50+, 60+, 65+, and 70+ years old.

The club calendar also includes social events, two intra-club cup competitions, an international tour, and a range of friendly matches, allowing everyone in the club to wear the club shirt and enjoy the camaraderie of team sport.

CPWFC reaches out beyond itself to support others by raising funds for a named charity each year and runs the Parky Pals programme. Parky Pals is a fortnightly session designed for individuals facing health challenges who would benefit from the camaraderie, activity, and support of a club environment. Club members volunteer their time, skills, and smiles to run the sessions and often express how much they gain in return: a sense of purpose, connection, and fulfilment.

CPWFC is more than just a walking football club; it is a community of camaraderie where everyone has a role to play, both on and off the pitch, and where everyone is valued and respected.
