Community Chatter Nov 25: Keeping you in touch with who is doing what, where and when

Laurie Plant with Bowly Pump. Cirencester Civic Society

Introducing Nimble November!

As we nimbly sidestep the end of British Summer Time we say “goodbye” to some fantastic events … the Mop Fair (in Cirencester since 1925), Cirencester History Festival (launched last year) and our very first Half-Marathon – who says Cirencester is sleepy?

And now, we are saying “hello” to the newest hare sculpture. Commissioned by Cirencester Civic Society, showcasing a whole host of iconic buildings, sited right in the centre of the town. Pop along and take a look!

The sculpture will be part of Cirencester’s Public Art Trail launching Spring 2026 – a joint initiative between the Daniel Bingham Foundation and Cirencester Civic Society but also involving lots of community groups and organisations including Cirencester College. Planning started at the end of October when some of the students, together with local artist Laurie Plant, joined Civic Society Town Guides to plan the trail. The picture here shows Laurie deliberating with the students asking: “is the Bowly Pump an example of public art or a utility appliance bringing water to local almshouses?” The ‘jury is out’ so let me know what you think.

And now to Christmas prep – planning ahead is key so get your diaries ready! JOY is open now at New Brewery Arts so check out all those festive gifts. There is the spectacular Christmas Tree Festival at the Parish Church until December 16th and simply too many to mention Carol Concerts! And don’t forget the joyous Advent Festival on Saturday 29th November, organised every year by Cirencester Town Council. What a line-up! What a month!

Well, that’s all for this month but do keep in touch (email me: caroleboydell@gmail.com or call 07776 144033) and let me know if you are planning a great event over the next few months – and watch this space!
