Let’s start with the Mushroom Meditation event on Friday 6th June at Cirencester Parish Church. Doors open 6:30pm with a start time of 7pm. Get more information from www.cirenparish.co.uk
On Wednesday 18 June, join the U3A Military History Group and hear about The Battle of Crécy. In July 1346 Edward III invaded France. He led his army to the very outskirts of Paris before turning towards Calais. But between the English and the sea lay a French army and, out-numbered, Edward was forced to stand and fight at Crécy. If you are interested in helping respond to our deteriorating environmental and water conditions, join The Friends of Gumstool Brook who are holding an Open Meeting 9th June in the Winstone Room, Corinium Museum. The meeting starts at 11am but you can get more information from www.gumstool.org.uk
Or take a rare opportunity to visit Weavers Hall on Thomas Street, Cirencester which will be opening its doors for guided tours on Saturday 28th June and Saturday 26th July between 2pm and 3.30pm. Admission is free but you will need to book – email: weavershall@mooreallen.co.uk What a chance to see the 17th and 18th century wall painting and hear about Cirencester’s earliest domestic building still in use!
And, just to finish off, I would like to say congratulations to everyone who took part in the Cirencester Community Awards last month – from the volunteer organisers (Cirencester Radio and Cirencester Community Development Trust) to the sponsors and supporters, the numbercrunchers, HCR Law, Lake 32, Cirencester Town Council, Cirencester Chamber of Commerce, Cirencester Camera Club and Ciren Scene and, of course all those individuals, groups and organisations who were nominated to receive an award. Over 150 guests were welcomed by our own Town Crier and The High Sheriff of Gloucestershire, and we all had a simply splendid time.
Check out www.cirencesterradio.co.uk to see the video and details of Finalists. Well done, everyone!
