Barn Theatre Audiences Raise £17,287 For Cirencester Pantry

CEO and Artistic Director Iwan Lewis, Executive Director Liam McMullan and the whole team at the Barn Theatre are delighted to announce that the audiences of their Christmas Show, A Christmas Carol, helped to raise £17,287.43 for Cirencester Pantry.

Cirencester Pantry has been running for three years and is a member-based community initiative for people to access surplus food which would have otherwise gone to landfill. Their mission is to stop food waste so their team collect the surplus food from a variety of organisations throughout the week and the surplus is distributed at Watermoor Church Hall on Friday afternoons from 3.30pm – 5.00pm. Members are able to pick the items they would like and then anything leftover is delivered to Tetbury Community Fridge and Scrubditch Care Farm. The work at the pantry is mostly undertaken by volunteers and all members of the Pantry are encouraged to volunteer.

Audiences who attended A Christmas Carol over the festive period were asked by the cast at the close of each show to donate what they could to support The Pantry resulting in a total donation of £17,287.43. This amount helped meet the Pantry’s funding goal for 2026 which will enable them to open their doors to everyone on their waitlist and continue their great work without any funding concerns.

Cirencester Pantry Founder Mary Cobbett said, “The gifts and kind support of the audiences at A Christmas Carol which raised over an incredible £17,000 will allow us to expand the number of households we can support and continue to respond to emerging needs, improve nutrition and welfare and prevent as much food waste locally as we can.”

Barn Theatre CEO and Artistic Director Iwan Lewis said, “Our audiences are quite simply the best. Their generosity and community spirit have been extraordinary, and they truly embraced the meaning of A Christmas Carol. As Dickens reminds us, the true meaning of Christmas lies in lightening the burdens of others – and our audiences have done exactly that, giving so generously to support Cirencester Pantry and the most vulnerable in our community.”
